Making money with an Instant Messenger

That’s right. You can make money with an instant messenger. No, you don’t have to spam people with inane advertisements that really don’t work.

There is an instant messenger called IMVU. It is a graphical instant messenger. The graphics are 3d so they look like people.

You can customize your avatar. Change how it looks, what it wears and where it lives. Other users will see the avatar just as you have created it. Best of all, it is free.
Now, I mentioned making money with this. Yes, you can make money with this.

I am not going to say it is easy but you can make money with this. Unfortunately, to do so means you have to register your avatar name. This is a fairly inexpensive purchase. You also have to have some purchased credits. I’ll explain why in a bit.

The way you can make money with this is to develop products for other users to purchase. They will purchase the products with IMVU credits. Those credits can be used to create more items, purchase items you want or you can sell them if you gather enough.

The user base for IMVU is quite large. Unfortunately so is the catalog. But people do buy the products.

I had 6 sales in a matter of 2 days for 3 items I created rather quickly. Granted, the commissions I received off of those items wasn’t much it just goes to show you that you can get a fairly quick turn around on the items you create.

The products range from simple to difficult to create. You can create things as simple as a sticker that someone can place on their personal web space on the site. Or it can be something as complex as a scene.

Most of the products have fairly good examples of how to create new products.

There is a tutorial that IMVU has but I find it extremely lacking in concrete steps on how to create items. Fortunately, there is a rather large developer base you can use to get you going in creating your own products.

Once you join or just browse the site you can see the different ways you could earn some cash.

If you aren’t all that artistically inclined but would like to try the messenger, by all means sign up. It is free. You don’t have to buy any credits and you can get free credits to spend on items.
