Donations

Donations are a pretty good way to get money as well.

Donations usually require one or two things for people to send you money. One is the pity factor and the other is a service. Either one can be effective if presented properly.

The Pity Factor

This is one of the more popular ideas that have come along. Tell your life story in hopes of gaining they sympothy of others. Ask that those who can sympothize with you help you out by donating to fix your problem. There have been several cases where people have paid their credit card bills, paid for college, Legal bills, new homes and almost anything else you can think of.

Americans are quite generous and will help you out if you have a genuine problem and can convey it in an effective manner. Don’t take advantage of this though. It could backfire and cause you more problems then it helps.

The Service

There are lots of things you can do to provide a service. One of the easiest is to run a blog on your favorite hobby. Doesn’t require alot of set up and you can maintain and update it through your browser.

Or you can run what is called a forum.

Again, this should be about something that you are genuinely interested in. It could be hamsters or any number of things.

Once you have picked out your service, I will go over some of the free things you can do in a later post, make sure you mention the fact that you need donations to continue maintaining the site. Don’t forget to place a link to where your users can go to donate, I will go over some ways for people to donate to you in a later post as well. Mention, often, about donating. If you run a forum, place it in your signature.

For either of these methods you are counting on people to just give you money. Either because of pity/sympothy or because of the service you are providing them. Don’t forget to provide a link for them to donate to and don’t forget to mention that you would accept donations often.
